Carl Froch advises friend Tony Bellew not to commentate on Anthony Joshua fights due to his loyalty and bias

Carl Froch believes Tony Bellew should not be commentating on any fighters that he considers friends.

The former cruiserweight world champion Bellew, who is a member of the DAZN commentary team, has been accused of bias before when it comes to Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua in particular, with whom he is openly friends.

And Froch thinks that this is not what fans want to see, instead preferring commentators who are willing to criticise fighters when necessary.

“Tony Bellew, another good friend of mine. He’s got a problem when he commentates on fights,” Froch said on his YouTube channel.

“Because he’s so loyal, he’s a proper passionate scouser, and he doesn’t want to give any criticism.

“Tony finds it difficult to criticise Derek Chisora, he finds it hard to give Anthony Joshua any honest criticism.

“So, maybe he shouldn’t be commentating or giving his analysis on his friends because fans and people viewing wants an honest opinion.”

And Froch himself is certainly not afraid to criticise, as he took aim at Joshua after his most recent victory against Robert Helenius.

Next up, Joshua looks likely to fight Deontay Wilder, but Froch has strongly advised against this, saying: “Let’s be honest, Anthony Joshua – do not face Deontay Wilder in your next fight because you will get absolutely knocked el sparko.”

Froch continued: “If you’re doing it for the money, take the money, fair enough, but keep yourself safe because this is a dangerous sport

“I don’t know what’s happening with his training but you’re looking like a man who’s a novice pro who’s scared to throw punches and it’s not good enough.

“Deontay Wilder will be watching that performance absolutely licking his lips.

“Don’t jump in with Deontay Wilder on the back of that performance because it was crap. It’s not good enough and it’s just dangerous. Wilder will come for you, he’ll be aggressive.”
