Jeremy Doku has told Rennes he wants to join Manchester City despite interest from West Ham, talkSPORT understands.
Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to bring in a replacement for Riyad Mahrez this summer following his departure to Al Ahli.
Just two signings have been made at City so far, with Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol being their only acquisitions.
Given how crucial Mahrez was to their success over recent seasons, there is no surprise they will want to find an ideal replacement.
Doku has been identified as a player who could fill the void on the right wing, with the Belgian telling Rennes he wants the transfer.
The Ligue 1 side have also held talks with West Ham over a move for the 21-year-old this summer.
However, it seems as though the Etihad Stadium is his preferred destination should he leave this summer.
Doku kicked off his career in the youth ranks at Anderlecht and went on to make 37 senior appearances for them.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool were interested in the youngster during his time at the Belgian side.
However, he sealed a move to Rennes in 2020 and has featured 92 times for them since, scoring 12 goals and assisting another ten.
He has already made an impact this season having scored in Rennes’ 5-1 win over FC Metz on the opening weekend of the Ligue 1 season.
Premier League football could very well beckon for him in the coming weeks though if a move to City takes place.
Guardiola’s side have already commenced their title challenge with two wins from two over Burnley and Newcastle.
