A light aircraft has crashed in a field near a Grade II listed building close to the village of Pebmarsh in Essex. 

Emergency services responded to reports of the crash just before 9:30am today near Stanley Hall, which was listed as a Grade II building in 1952. 

A woman who lived nearby said she saw the aircraft travelling in a south-westerly direction before there was a bang and a large plume of smoke began to rise, the BBC reported.

Essex Police are at the scene off Pebmarsh Road alongside crews from the ambulance service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service.
