Bangor racing tips

4.30: The Galahad Kid 11/10 – 1pt

The Big Jetaway has taken well to fences but not as much over hurdles and runs off a 5lb higher mark despite never winning in this discipline.

Which is why The Galahad Kid is a great favourite to back – he always does just enough and has looked strong on his opening two hurdle runs.

5.00: Al Zaraqaan 7/4 – 1pt & exacta with Sir Tivo – 1pt

There’s lots to like about all these horses, all of which have been tipped to win before aside from Mercian Prince who’s the 18/1 outsider.

Al Zaraqaan has won four out of four chase runs and has gone up from a rating of 121 to 135.

He’s even beaten Sir Tivo while carrying the same weight but both have gone up in the weights since so it won’t be as straightforward as reversing the form, especially as he only won by a short head.

Al Zaraqaan’s form is incredibly encouraging too, not only for winning by a distance last time out but also ahead of serial subsequent winner A Different Kind.

Up another 4lb from that win at Southwell last time out and Sir Tivo has the chance to reverse the form after just a 3lb rise from his latest win, also in late July.

It looks as though Al Zaraqaan, by Golden Horn, trained by Sam England still has a ceiling mark to reach that’s further from this current one.

An additional exacta on the two would also be a nice option to cover and at least boost the returns.

5.30: Slate Lane 4/6 – 2pts

Returned to hurdles at Cartmel in June when upped well in trip and now looks very suited for trainer Emmet Mullins, hence his short price.

Won by ten lengths on first start for new trainer, also under Donagh Meyler who comes here for just this one ride. And looks clear ahead of the rest with nice potential.

6.05: Any News 13/2 – 1pt each-way

Farouk De Cheneau is another horse today looking to continue winning ways but has drifted from a short price last night to as high to 3/1 this morning.

He has to contend a big weight different to all his rivals and that could be the reason for the drift.

Pull Again Green finished well ahead of The Bomber Liston last time, but Any News was incredibly close behind A Different Kind, another with good form behind this horse and with the weight advantage on the Owners’ Group horse could make a nice win at 13/2.

Any News was far behind Farouk De Cheneau in May but has clearly improved on that run, with the weight further in hand and looks suited to stepping up further in trip, to 3m this time.

8.05: Never No Trouble (to place) 11/10 – 2pts

Police Academy beat Manimole last time out and that mare went on to place a decent short head second at Southwell just six days after, which does help this Fergal O’Brien-trained horse’s chances.

She was carrying a stone less though along with having 7lb claimer Ben Sutton on board though and doesn’t quite get the same weight advantage this time.

She now faces a horse who is consistently making the frame, Never No Trouble, but she’s only once got her head in front, and also usually runs with the aid of claimers on board but today has Brian Hughes.

There’s a big chance for an upset in the odds here, but Never No Trouble has the weight and consistency to be a safe place bet at better than evens and even higher if place betting for the top two.

P+L since 10/07/23: +48.97pts
