Having risen through the ranks with Manchester City, Lavia completed a permanent move to Southampton last summer, with the 19-year-old making 34 appearances for the club.

However with the Saints suffering relegation, Lavia now has a new challenge ahead of him as he looks to help Chelsea get back to their former glory in the short and long-term.

In a brief insight into the player’s mindset, Lavia shared a clip of UFC president Dana White speaking.

In the video, White said: “Bet against me.

“F***ing bet against me, tell me it’s not going to happen, tell me it’s going to fail.

“I love it, I love every minute of it.”

Clearly buoyed by the challenge ahead of him, Lavia will be desperate to make an impression with Chelsea.

The midfielder was eligible to play in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham at the weekend, but discussing the decision to exclude both he and Moises Caicedo from the starting line up, Mauricio Pochettino suggested that it would have been too soon to play him.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Pochettino said: “It’s common sense, but more for Lavia because he arrived later than Moises.

“They didn’t train properly in the last 10 days and many things happened and for Moises to be involved is good, but for Romeo he still needs a few days to settle with the team and the club.

“It’s common sense that both don’t start, but more for Lavia as it’s a decision to avoid injuries.”
