NFL Week 4 – NFL Preseason odds and betting tips

As NFL fans eagerly wait to kick off the regular season, we continue to whet our appetites with preseason matchups. Teams are now preparing for their final preseason matchup as they make the tough decisions in order to shrink the roster down to 53 players under contract.

While each team has a different philosophy on the preseason and we will see a different approach for this third matchup among each coaching staff, the bet slips cash all the same regardless of it being preseason. This is something to keep in mind as you consider what wagers to make, although there is no way around the fact that there is much more variance in talent and effort levels in the preseason.

Here are a few final tips for the last week of the preseason action to give you the best chance of loading up your account ahead of the season’s true start.

Eagles vs. Colts: Eagles ML (+170) | (DraftKings)

It has been a heated week of practice between the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts which includes a number of brawls between the two teams. While the Eagles will keep their sights set on far bigger goals than winning the third preseason game, head coach Nick Sirianni is known for his competitiveness. Sirianni also joined the Eagles after serving as offensive coordinator for the Colts from 2018-2021 and let Indianapolis know he took it personally after beating them last year on his old stomping grounds. Known as a player motivator, expect Sirianni to have the team ready to play in the finale.

In addition, there is a quarterback controversy in Philadelphia. No, Jalen Hurts’ job is not in danger after leading the team to the Superbowl last year. However, the Eagles handed Marcus Mariota a 1-year deal with $5 million guaranteed with the expectation this would solve their backup quarterback issue. It has been a downhill spiral for the Oregon product after losing out on the Falcons starting quarterback job last season. Mariota has struggled greatly throughout training camp and in both the preseason matchups thus far. On the other side of things, rookie Tanner McKee has shined, completing 20 of his 38 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown without turning the ball over. Plenty of Eagles fans are jumping on the hype train for the sixth-round pick and another strong performance in the third preseason matchup could earn him the second-string role.

With two motivated quarterbacks, a better coaching staff, and an overall more complete roster, take the Eagles to get the upset victory to close out their preseason in proper fashion.

Jets vs. Giants: Jets -4.5 (-108) | (BetRivers)

The battle of this pair of New York teams holds more intrigue than most preseason matchups. The Jets have become this year’s darling team complete with Hard Knocks coverage and a new star quarterback under center. Surprisingly, Aaron Rodgers is expected to start this matchup for the Jets with reports indicating the four-time MVP requested to get some additional snaps. Surrounding Rodgers will be the most complete roster he has had in several years. This Jets team offers a stronger defense and more balanced weapons than the Packers were able to provide in recent seasons. The biggest question mark will be how soon the 39-year-old is able to get on the same page with his new teammates, so expect there to be a focused effort on the field.

On the other side of things, the Giants look to be packing it in and preparing for the regular season. Head Coach Brian Daboll has tipped his hand that he plans on rolling with the backups and will not be swayed by Rodgers’ presence. New York is coming off a strong season in which they exceeded expectations by punching their tickets to the playoffs and knocking out the Minnesota Vikings in the opening round. While players like rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt will be given opportunities to shine, New York is a notch below the Jets when it comes to overall talent on the roster.

🏈 Expect the Jets to play with a purpose and cover the 4.5 spread at -108 with BetRivers 🏈

Steelers vs. Falcons: Under 38.5 points (-110) | (BetMGM)

Preseason football is ugly. But it is better to make money watching ugly football than to suffer through it without. Through their first two preseason games, the Falcons have combined for 32 total points scored including a 13-13 tie against the Cincinnati Bengals last week. It also should be noted that 13 of the 19 points in the Falcons’ opening game were scored by the defense and special teams. The Steelers have had more success, scoring 27 points in each matchup, however the under is 1-1 in these matchups. While their record sits at 2-0 in the preseason, the Steelers have not looked as impressive as it would suggest. They averaged just 5.1 yards per play against the Buccaneers in Week 1 and 4.4 yards per play against the Bills last week. Atlanta has not been much better averaging 4.3 yards per play in the preseason opener and 5.8 yards per play last week.

Pittsburgh has a more positive outlook for the season, but neither team is expected to make massive waves in the regular season. Both sides are expected to give their starters minutes in the week three matchup. Even with the low-scoring totals, both teams have been somewhat lucky to produce the scoring tallies that they have. Expect this to be a low-scoring and slow-paced matchup without much offensive production.

🏈 Take the under 38.5 points at -110 with BetMGM and hit fast-forward to the regular season 🏈
