A tragic single father-of-four has been shot and killed in a road rage fight just hours after he had dinner with his mom and girlfriend in New York City.
Fausto Rodriguez, 40, posted on social media he spent a ‘perfect’ day with his family and girlfriend as well as his co-workers at a mechanics shop.
But three hours after writing ‘thank you for another day’ in the uplifting post, Rodriguez was killed in a horrific road rage shooting.
Rodriguez, described by his family as ‘one of the happiest hardworking people they knew’, was involved in a car accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway on Friday night, police said.
Rodriguez and his friend were driving along the expressway just before 11pm on Friday night when their Honda Accord was rear-ended by a Ford edge, police told New York Daily News.
Police said the four men inside the Ford fled from the scene of the crash on foot and Rodriguez called 911 – but minutes later, one of the men from the Ford returned to the scene in a grey Toyota Rav4 with another man, reports ABC7 New York.
A heated argument ensued between the men and Rodriguez but quickly escalated, with one of the men fatally shooting the father-of-four, police said.

The two men fled in the Toyota, which was found abandoned at a nearby location, while medics rushed to the scene and transported Rodriguez to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Rodriguez’s co-workers said he had closed the auto body shop business Xtreme Quality on Friday evening before going for dinner with his mom and girlfriend – just mere hours before the fatal road rage incident happened.
At 8pm on Friday night, Rodriguez had posted a video of the New York Police Department and horses on WhatsApp Stories, with a caption that read: ‘Thank you for another day. Today was a great day.’
But three hours later, he was fatally shot in the horrific road rage incident. His girlfriend said his family are ‘devastated’ by his murder.
While police said Rodriguez was involved in the car crash, his sister Emely told New York Daily News that her brother had shown up to the scene to help because of his mechanic skills.
She said he had got a call during a family dinner to help but he was attacked by gunmen because he recorded the aftermath of the crash.
‘He was recording what happened between the cars and what we’ve been told… is that the [people in the] car got upset because he was recording them,’ Emely said.
‘He was not doing anything. He was just there. Like everyone does, if something happens you go to record. He just showed up at the wrong place in the wrong moment.’

Police have launched an investigation into Rodriguez’s murder – and no arrests have yet been made.
His boss, Boris Alexander, 44, paid tribute to Rodriguez and said: ‘We can write a book about Fausto and who he was and… what he meant to us. Fausto was a brother to all of us. We can’t comprehend.
‘He was the centerpiece. Fausto was kind of the glue that held all of us together. It’s really a huge loss. It’s been devastating.’
His friends said he was a single father to three children in the US while his fourth grown child is in the Dominican Republic. Rodriguez also helped raise his girlfriend’s two children.
Emely described her brother as an ‘exceptional human being’ who would always help others.
His friend Luisa Checo told ABC7: ‘He was always happy, he never was mad. He was never arguing with anyone. It’s really painful because he was a good person, he never got in trouble with anyone, he was a good father.’
Rodriquez’s family are now calling for the killer to be brought to justice, with Emely saying the murder has ‘destroyed a beautiful family and a great person’.
‘The domino effect that they create,’ Alexander said. ‘The hurt. The people who will never be the same. The amount of hurt. I really hope that this loss is not in vain.’
Rodriguez’s family have set up a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise money for his funeral costs and to help his four surviving children financially.
