The fourth and final tennis Grand Slam of the year got underway on Monday this week.

All eyes are on Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s draw, with the top two world ranked players both destined to meet each other in the final in what would be a rematch of the staggering Wimbledon final earlier this year.

The Spaniard won the SW19 thriller in five sets to lift his first Wimbledon trophy and his second Grand Slam title of his short career, having won his first at the US Open 12 months ago.

Djokovic has won an all-time record 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and is hoping to make it 24 in the next fortnight as the Serbian bids to win his fourth US Open title, a championship he hasn’t won since 2018.

The 36-year-old is the favourite, at time of writing, to extend his record of the most men’s Grand Slam singles titles, with Betfair pricing him at evens to win the final in two Sundays time, while Alcaraz is priced at 15/8.

The women’s event is a much more open affair with several players in with a good chance of finishing the season with a Grand Slam title under their belt.

Iga Swiatek heads into the tournament as favourite with 21/10 odds, having won this competition last year as well as the last two French Opens.

Aryna Sabalenka travels to New York as the world number 2, and having won her first Slam at the Australian Open this year, is also well in with a shout of winning this hard court event as well – the Belarusian is priced at 9/2 to win.

Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur and Coco Gauff all have similarly good chances of victory at Flushing Meadows.

Rybakina won Wimbledon last year and reached the final of the Australian Open this year, while Jabeur has been the defeated finalist in three of the last five Slams, leaving some to believe this could be her breakthrough.

Coco Gauff is still only 19 but defeated Swiatek in preparation for this year’s tournament and will be backed by a home crowd that could roar her to victory, as is the case for world number three Jessica Pegula.
