Dan Evans faces one of the biggest tests of his career when he battles world number one Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open this weekend.
British star Evans has only reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam twice and faces a tough ask to do it again against the defending champion Alcaraz.
The 33-year-old has endured a tough 2023 and has lost his two meetings with the Spaniard, the most recent of which came in the latter’s home country in April.
Alcaraz won this tournamnet last year to claim his first ever Grand Slam title, which he added to with his Wimbledon triumph this summer.
But the 20-year-old has not been at his best in New York, having had to battle to overcome Lloyd Harris 6-3 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in the last round.
Alcaraz vs Evans: Date and start time
This US Open men’s singles third-round tie is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 2.
It will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The action is set to get underway at 9pm UK time, but a start time for Alcaraz against Evans is yet to be confirmed.

Alcaraz vs Evans: What has been said?
“It’s a very difficult draw,” said Evans. “It’s a little annoying to have him [Alcaraz] in the draw but it is what it is.
“It will be a good match. I am really looking forward to it and will play aggressively.
“There’s been a few upsets on that court before. I played a good match in Barcelona this year on his favourite surface and he played well obviously.
“I have some insight into how he will play.
“He will obviously be the overwhelming favourite.
“It’s a good opportunity to play a very good tennis player on a big stage. That is why you play tennis.”
Alcaraz said: “We played a few times. He’s a really tough player. Good serve and volley, good net game.
“It’s going to be really tough. I will play my best.
“I will have to return very, very well if I want to win that match. Let’s see how it’s going to be.”
