Emile Smith Rowe is set to stay at Arsenal beyond the summer transfer window, Mikel Arteta has confirmed.
The attacking midfielder was the subject of an approach from Chelsea this week who tried their luck to poach the talented star away from the Emirates.
Smith Rowe has been an unused substitute in the Gunners’ first three Premier League games this season.
This led to suggestions that he could be allowed to move on as he seeks regular first team football.
But not only is the 23-year-old going nowhere, Arteta has hinted that he’s set for an increased role in the team over the coming months.
Asked if he’ll still be an Arsenal player, Arteta said: “Yes.”
Discussing Smith Rowe’s role in the team, he added: “The role like everybody else does.
“To try to give his best and make the team better.
“I had a conversation with him and it’s important to understand where he is.
“The first three or four weeks were always going to be tricky for all the clubs.
“You see all the rumours and players who are not happy in every country because it’s one game per week for a month and everybody has a new season with huge aspirations, there are not minutes for everybody.
“September will be very different.”
Since making his debut in the 2018/19 season, the Hale End graduate has chipped in with 18 goals in 97 games in all competitions for Arsenal.
