Scott McTominay next club odds: Fulham new favourites for Man Utd star amid rumoured Palhinha departure

Fulham are the new leaders in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

talkSPORT BET have the Cottagers priced at 2/1 to sign the central midfielder this deadline day, with the London club reportedly looking for a replace for Joao Palhinha, should he depart Craven Cottage.

The 26-year-old joined Man Utd’s academy at the age of five and has been with the club ever since.

Having progressed through the youth teams, the Scotland international has gone on to make over 200 first team appearances for the Red Devils, winning his first piece of silverware with them by lifting last season’s Carabao Cup.

The midfielder, who has two years remaining on his current contract, started only 10 Premier League matches last season for United following the signings of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, and will likely find minutes hard to come by at Old Trafford again this season.

The Scot has played just seven Premier League minutes this season, coming from two substitute appearances combined.

With Scotland in a strong position to qualify for just their second major tournament this century, McTominay may decide he wants as many Premier League minutes as possible in preparation for next summer’s Euros, which may mean leaving his boyhood club.

Fulham have been linked as the most likely side to make a deadline day move for the midfielder, as Marco Silva’s side prepare for the prospect of losing their star midfielder in the form of Joao Palhinha.

The Portugal midfielder is strongly being linked with a move to Bayern Munich on deadline day, leaving Silva looking for a last minute replacement for the 28-year-old.

Fulham are quite short in the central midfield department as it is, with Harrison Reed, Tom Cairney and Tryese Francois all in the final year of their contracts currently, leaving just Sasa Lukic at the club in the middle of the park should Palhinha leave.

The Scot has also recently been linked with a move to the Bundesliga, with German champions Bayern Munich reportedly interested in a potential move for the midfielder.

Thomas Tuchel’s side looks set to sell young midfielder Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool this deadline day, which will leave the club looking short of depth in central midfield, and the former Chelsea boss could have his sights set on the Scotland internaitional.

The defending Bundesliga champions have been priced at 3/1 to sign the Manchester United midfielder.

West Ham have also long been linked as a potential destination for the Lancashire-born player, with David Moyes supposedly having taken a liking to the midfielder.

The Hammers lost their club captain and star player in the form of Declan Rice to Arsenal this summer for over £100m, leaving a lot of money for Moyes and co to splash in the transfer window.

The London side have already recruited in the central midfield department, having picked up Edson Alvarez from Ajax and James Ward-Prowse from Southampton, so another midfielder may not be top of the priority list at this point in time.

West Ham’s triumph in winning last season’s Europa Conference League, their first major trophy since 1980, means that they get a spot in next season’s Europa League group stage which could be key in their pursuit of new signings this summer.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the midfielder, and are currently priced behind West Ham at 14/1 to sign the Scotland international, though they’d previously been as low as 9/4.

The Magpies would be able to offer the 26-year-old Champions League football next season, should he make the move, which is something that other competitors for the Scot’s signature don’t have the luxury of doing.

Eddie Howe’s side exceeded many expectations last season as they reached the final of the Carabao Cup, and finished fourth in the Premier League, their highest finish since 2003.

The squad is likely to have a busy summer in terms of new signings, with Howe needing to increase the strength and depth of his squad to accommodate the increased workload that European football brings, along with competing at the top end of the Premier League again.

Everton were favourites earlier in the summer to sign McTominay, but have since been overtaken in the race according to the bookies, with those odds now also reaching 14/1.

The Toffees secured their place in the Premier League for this coming season after a dramatic win on the final day of the last campaign to seal their survival at the expense of 2016 champions Leicester.

The Merseyside club have already announced the departure of academy graduate midfielder Tom Davies this summer, and will be wary of the contracts of fellow midfield trio Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueye and Alex Iwobi which all expire in 12 months time.

McTominay can bring Champions League experience and an improvement in the strength and depth of the current Toffees side which Dyche will see as a huge benefit to his side.

A move to Italy has also been rumoured at 14/1, with Roma apparently interested in the Scot, as has a move north of the border to Scotland, where he has become a firm favourite following his performances in Euro 2024 qualifying for the nation, to join current champions Celtic at 16/1.

There are also rumours linking McTominay with a move abroad, with potential transfers to France or Spain both priced at 16/1.

Crystal Palace are slightly further behind in the race for the midfielder as they look for a potential replacement for Cheick Doucoure who’s been linked with a move away.

The Eagles are priced at 25/1.

East Midlands sides Leicester and Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are a long shot at 33/1 to sign the Manchester United man.
