Deadline day will live long in the memory for one Nottingham Forest fan after he helped unveil one of their new signings.
Steve Cooper’s side announced the arrival of Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven for around £30million, a club record deal.
The Ivorian had just helped guide his former side to the Champions League group stages in their 7-3 aggregate win over Rangers.
He has now finalised a switch to the City Ground though, becoming one of the club’s 14 summer signings.
With the clock ticking towards the 11pm deadline on Friday night, many fans would have been heading to bed ahead of their clash against Chelsea, live on talkSPORT.
However, Forest fan Thomas was called late in the evening to help welcome Sangare to the club thanks to his French speaking skills.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, he said: “Had the most surreal night last night, one minute I’m in bed about to go to sleep.
“The next, I’m down the City Ground translating for Sangare. I’ll forever be grateful for that experience, it still doesn’t feel real! COYR!!”
talkSPORT understands Forest were indeed appealing for a fan who speaks fluent French to help unveil Sangare.
Thomas answered the call, jumped out of bed, put a Forest shirt on and arrived at the City Ground 15 minutes later.
Sangare arrives at Forest with a depth of experience having made 140 appearances for PSV, scoring 15 goals from midfield.
The 25-year-old has also played in the Europa League and Europa Conference League for the Dutch giants.
He was one of seven signings to put pen to paper on deals at Forest on deadline day.
Callum Hudson-Odoi, Andrew Omobamidele, Nicolas Dominguez and Odysseas Vlachodimos all signed on permanent deals.
Nuno Tavares and Divock Origi also arrived on loan from Arsenal and AC Milan respectively.
Forest also bid farewell to Brennan Johnson as he completed his move to Tottenham in a £45million deal.
