Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales releases new explosive statement claiming he is ‘advancing feminism’

Disgraced Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales continues to double down on his defence of kissing Jenni Hermoso despite global outrage.

Rubiales has refused to resign despite widespread backlash over his actions after Spain’s victory over England in the Women’s World Cup final.

The 46-year-old has been banned for 90 days by FIFA, meanwhile the Spanish Sports Administrative Tribunal has opened an investigation into serious misconduct and the Spanish FA (RFEF) have launched their own internal inquest.

On Friday, acting Sports and Culture Minister Miquel Iceta called on the tribunal to suspend Rubiales for abusing his power.

Within minutes of the statement, Rubiales spoke out for the first time since his dramatic press conference on August 25, which was designed to announce his resignation before an astonishing U-turn.

On Friday, Rubiales said: “I am the victim of an unprecedented political and media lynching.

“I have been deliberately sidelined. But I have presented all the relevant images that show the facts. That evidence will ignore opinions and clear my name.”

Rubiales, who continues to argue the kiss was consensual, also insisted he was ‘advancing the feminist cause’ and claimed his case would be significant for ‘real victims of aggression.’

Spain Women star Hermoso has confirmed the kiss was not consensual, while all of the World Cup-winning squad have threatened to resign if Rubiales remains in his post.

Sarina Wiegman and the Lionesses have joined the global opposition to Rubiales across football.

Spain Women’s boss Jorge Vilda has condemned Rubiales and his entire coaching staff have quit over the controversy.

Men’s head coach Luis de la Fuente has apologised for applauding Rubiales’ refusal to resign and insists he does not support the RFEF chief.

The National Sports Council is unable to suspend Rubiales while an investigation is ongoing, but the Spaniard has run out of allies and regional leaders of the organisation have all called on him to quit.
