Chris Eubank’s trainer, Brian McIntyre, has been arrested at Manchester Airport for having a loaded gun in his suitcase.
The American McIntyre, otherwise known as ‘BoMac’, had been in the UK to train Eubank for his knockout win over Liam Smith on Saturday night at Manchester Arena.
But, as he looked to fly to Atlanta on Sunday morning, the 53-year-old was detained by armed police and arrested for possession of a firearm.
A scan of his luggage showed the gun with a magazine inside, which had not been attempted to be hidden, and security officials immediately raised an alarm.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester police told Mail Sport: “At around 10:45 am on Sunday 3 September 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.
“After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized.
“Subsequently, a man has been arrested for possession of a firearm and remains in custody for further questioning.”
Eubank’s team refused to comment when approached by Mail Sport.
McIntyre is considered one of the best boxing trainers in the world and he is a frontrunner to be named this year’s ‘Trainer of the Year’.
The man from Nebraska is best known for guiding Terence Crawford to becoming the first two-weight undisputed world champion in the four belt era.
