Rising women’s tennis star Coco Gauff continues her journey towards US Open glory when she takes on Jelena Ostapenko in the quarter-finals this week.
The 19-year-old, propelled by strong home support, has cruised through the women’s singles so far and is on course to win her first Grand Slam.
She beat former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the last round and is now looking to go one step further than her previous best at a Slam when she finished runner-up at the French Open last year.
But her next opponent will prove to be very tough.
Ostapenko beat the current world No. 2 and defending US Open women’s singles champion Iga Swiatek in round four.
Swiatek took the first set 6-3, but the Latvian won the following two 6-3, 6-1 to set up this mouthwatering clash.

Gauff vs Ostapenko: What has been said?
Gauff revealed that her dad has had to be moved out of the box near the court because he gets too nervous, while she was also delighted to beat Wozniacki.
Speaking to Sky Sports after her game, she said: “I grew up watching her and never thought I would have the opportunity to play her, but it was a really cool atmosphere.
“It wasn’t easy, but I was happy with how I managed it.”
Speaking about her dad, she said: “He’s been with my whole life, so I used to always look at him, and sometimes, I would miss a shot and he would say something crazy, so we decided to put him somewhere I can’t see him.
“It’s worked much better.”
