The 2023/24 NFL season is set to get underway later this week, and it all starts with the Kansas City Chiefs against the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs are the current Super Bowl champions after sealing a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and co will be one of the favourites once again, but they do have a few issues that the Lions will look to take advantage of on opening night.
The Lions just missed out on the post-season last year, recording nine wins and eight defeats and haven’t been part of the playoffs since 2016.
They will hope for an improved season but couldn’t have wished for a tougher start.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Detroit Lions: Team news
The hosts look set to be without one of their star players in Travis Kelce.
The tight end hyperextended his knee in training earlier this week and is a doubt but he is understood to have avoided a long-term injury.
Kelce is one of the NFL’s star players and hasn’t missed a game through injury since 2013.
The club are currently in a contract standoff with defensive tackle Chris Jones, so he’s unlikely to play.
Plus, defensive end Charles Omenihu is suspended for the first six games of the season after breaking the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
As for the Lions, there have been wholsesale changes to last season’s squad, but crucially, they kept quarterback Jared Goff and star wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Detroit Lions: What has been said?
Chiefs quarterback Mahomes is ready to play without Jones.
He said: “At this point, you kind of just prepare to play the game with the guys that are in the building and let the front office handle that.
“We’ve got a tough test with the Detroit Lions, and we’re going to focus on how we can win with the guys that are here.”
