Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire are reportedly set to start for England in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on Saturday.
Former Liverpool captain Henderson has been the subject of criticism this week as he claimed his move to Saudi Arabia was not financially motivated.
Henderson left Anfield during the summer and signed for Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Reds legend Steven Gerrard.
He was a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights at Liverpool and initially came under fire for his move to Saudi Arabia due to their criminalisation of homosexuality, which is punishable by the death penalty.
The 33-year-old then denied the sentiment that his transfer to Al Ettifaq was not influenced by money in an interview with The Athletic, as well as reports that he is on £700,000-a-week.
Despite the recent criticism and move away from the top level of football, it’s being widely reported that England boss Gareth Southgate will start him against Ukraine, live on talkSPORT.
The match will be the Three Lions’ fifth fixture in their Euro 2024 qualifying group that also features Italy, North Macedonia and Malta.
Southgate could also be set to make another big call in his starting XI in the form of centre-back Maguire.
talkSPORT’s England correspondent Faye Carruthers said: “I do expect Maguire to start.
“I think it will probably be Marc Guehi alongside him, because that’s who he has been paired with when John Stones hasn’t been available.
“I think that’s who Gareth Southgate will start with, but equally I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Lewis Dunk.
“Although he doesn’t have many England caps, just the one from five years ago, he had amazing amounts of experience from being Brighton captain, so that’s another option.”
Maguire, who has made 57 appearances for England, was heavily linked with a move to West Ham in the summer but has remained at Manchester United.
He has made just one appearance so far this season as he came off the bench in their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last Sunday.
