The teenage prodigy dealt with the weight of expectation in front of a home crowd to deliver a phenomenal moment for her, her family, her team and the nation.

Gauff made her way into the stands and hugged her parents and was already in tears before she got to them.

Her dad, Corey, was particularly emotional after the win and his daughter hilariously called him out on it.

“Well, thank you first to my parents,” Gauff said. “Today was the first time I’ve seen my dad cry. He doesn’t want to tell y’all that. But he got caught in 4K. He thinks he’s so hard, but [he’s] not.

“Thank you, guys. You’ve believed in me since the beginning. I’ve been coming to this tournament, my dad took me to this tournament.

“Sitting right there watching Venus and Serena [Williams] compete. So it’s really incredible to be on this stage.”

It has been a phenomenal run for Gauff to the title as she won Washington and Cincinnati, something she addressed in the speech.

She said: “Thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me. Like a month ago, I won a 500 title and people said I would stop at that.

“Two weeks ago, I won a 1000 title and people were saying that was the biggest I was going to get. So three weeks later, I’m here with this trophy right now.

“I tried my best to carry this with grace and I’ve been doing my best. So honestly, to those who thought [they] were putting water on my fire, you’re really adding gas to it. And now I’m really burning so bright right now.”
