US Open champion Coco Gauff couldn’t help but laugh when fans asked how she is going to spend her prize fund.
The 19-year-old won her first ever Grand Slam on Sunday when she defeated Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-3 6-2 in New York.
Gauff is the first American teenager to win the US Open since the legendary Serena Williams did so in 1999.
Such a win has seen her pocket $3million [£2.37million] worth of prize money, with fans wondering what she plans to do with the funds.
They began to question Gauff during an Instagram live, with one of the suggestions giving her cause for laughter.
“Somebody said, ‘pay off debts’… I’m 19, I don’t have any debt, I’m not in debt,” she said before giggling.
“I’m not in debt, I live with my parents still, so I’m not in debt. I didn’t go to college so I don’t have any student dues to pay.
“I’m not in debt, I’m too young. My parents would never put me in that position to be in debts so yeah, I have nothing to pay right now.”
Gauff continued to laugh as more comments came flooding in, with many quick to celebrate her huge achievement.
Even tennis icon Roger Federer said his congratulations on social media as he called the up and coming star’s win ‘inspirational’.
It was an overwhelming occasion for the Gauff family as Coco was seen breaking down in tears as he hugged her parents.
She came back from a set down against world no.2 Sabalenka in New York to finally get her hands on a major title.
Many expect the US Open to just be the first of many for Gauff as she helps lead the next generation of tennis stars.
