Wales take on Latvia on Monday night looking to reignite their qualifying campaign for next summer’s Euros in Germany.

Rob Page’s men started the campaign very well, earning a 1-1 draw at Croatia in the Balkan side’s first game since their third place finish at the 2022 World Cup, and beat Latvia 1-0 in Cardiff to leave them with four points from their opening two games.

All was looking rosy until the June internationals, when the Dragons were beaten 4-2 at home by Armenia and then fell to a 2-0 defeat in Turkey.

Wales prepared for their latest qualifier with a 0-0 draw against South Korea in Cardiff on Thursday night ahead of their game against Group D’s bottom side on Monday night.

The Euro 2016 semi finalists, despite their back to back defeats in June, are only three points behind Croatia in the final qualifying spot in the group, though the eastern European side have played a game fewer.

Wales have won only one of their last 13 matches in all competitions, and will be looking to add to that sole victory in Riga.

Latvia welcome fourth placed Wales to their capital city on Monday night looking to pick up their first points of the qualifying campaign, though three of their four matches they’ve played so far have been away from home.

The first three games for Dainis Kazakevics’ side in qualifying all ended in defeat, though only by a single goal on each occasion, before they were then beaten 5-0 by Croatia on Friday night in Rijeka.

Friday’s result means that the Baltic nation have been beaten in seven of their last eight games, drawing the other, including two penalty shoot-out defeats in the Baltic Cup last year.

Wales and Latvia had only met once before prior to their match in Cardiff in March, coming in a friendly back in 2004 in which John Hartson and Craig Bellamy gave Wales a 2-0 win.
