Luxembourg U21 v England U21 preview
England U21 take to the field for the first time since their 2023 Euro U21 final victory over Spain in Georgia in July, which crowned them champions of Europe for the first time since 1984.
The new campaign brings around several new faces to the squad challenged with defending their title in Slovakia in two years’ time, with qualification being the first task at hand.
Lee Carsley’s side head to Luxembourg for their opening match of qualifying fully expecting to start the campaign with a win against one of the, on paper at least, weaker sides in Group F.
Only the first-placed team in the group will qualify automatically for 2025 U21 Euros, with the three best second-placed teams also reaching the finals whilst the remaining six will compete in the play-offs over two legs for the final three spots.
England and Luxembourg have been drawn alongside Azerbaijan, Northern Ireland, Serbia and Ukraine in Group F.
Luxembourg currently top the qualifying group having won the only match to have been played so far, winning 1-0 away at Northern Ireland on Thursday night.
The victory means they’ve already beaten their points tally for the last Euros qualification, in which they only picked up one point from their 10 matches, as Manuel Cardoni’s side look to qualify for their first ever U21 Euros.
The two nations have met before just twice at U21 level, with England winning 5-0 on both occasions in qualification for the 2000 tournament.
Luxembourg U21 v England U21 betting tips
England are such strong favourites for Monday’s clash that the main concern seems to be by how many goals they win.
3-0 and 4-0 victories are both priced shortest at 11/2, while those backing the Young Lions to win by more can get 5-0 at 13/2, 6-0 at 10/1 or 7-0 at 16/1.
